More and more people talk about Tech & Fashion, although usually it involves a startup that sells fashion items online.  LA Fashion Week reunited a different level of fashion-tech collaboration, between independent fashion designer Camelia Skikos and Fyusion, Inc., a startup that creates spatial photographs, using 3-D processing algorithms, co-founded by robotics specialist Radu Rusu. Both are based (where else?..) in San Francisco, California.
CAMELIA SKIKOS:
This collection is inspired by the work of French-Hungarian artist Victor Vasarely. Using techniques involving geometric shapes, contrasting fabrics like silk and wool, soft and hard, shiny and matte, I was trying to investigate possible ways of rendering the concept of duality. Opposites create drama. Good and bad inevitably coexist in our lives. I interpreted my thoughts and views in this matter through the choices of fabrics, design details and the juxtapositions of shapes and contrasting colors.
RADU RUSU, CEO & Co-Founder, Fyuse, Inc.:
The technology behind our app is very different. Our product is not a photograph and it’s not a video either. So we had to find a name for the 3D, interactive images, we call them fyuses.
It is precisely at this level, of duality and double bind, that the fyuse concept merged with Camelia Skikos fashion design philosophy. The uniqueness of a fyuse (as opposed to still photography or video) resides in its dual ability to surprise the viewer, while simultaneously giving him or her full control of the image. The result is symbiosis in which fyuse reveals new perceptions and meanings of Skikos’ design, as the viewer changes angles with his or her finger on the screen.
One of Skikos' greatest collections is actually inspired by nothing else than the streets of San Francisco - click here for tons of great pictures and another amazing video from Milos Vlaski.
