Sexual relationships between boys students and their female teachers seems to be very trendy in the U.S. online media. Usually the stories are promoted all over the place, in the footer and side banners of all online news aggregators. The stories about U.S. teacher-student affairs always begin with a vilifying tone, in which the teacher's actions are immediately translated in legal terms and years of prison. So I was obviously surprised when I saw the following title: Well, yes, this is what this 17 years old with freckles says about his affair with his 35 year old teacher. The event, as those familiar with the United States might imagine, took place somewhere else than the U.S.: in Scotland. Here is a parallel story, published in the same DailyMail.co.uk. The event happened in Staten Island, New York: Do you think that cultural values influence the way we perceive a sexual relationship between a 16+ years old male and his female teacher? Is it that most Scottish boys feel lucky and the American ones abused, or this is an exception?
How is/was this type of relationship perceived in your country/culture? I would like to hear your comments.
